A race against time to stop a vicious serial killer terrorizing London.

On Tuesday, August 28th, my latest novel, Daughters of Nyx: Whitechapel, a fast paced suspense thriller that mashes Greek mythology with a fictional retelling of the serial murders in London, 1888, will be released in eBook for 99 cents for ONE day only!

Blending in with mortals, they are successful in solving terrible crimes, until the autumn of 1888, London. Getting Back to Oz: Book Two – Dorothy’s Wisdom is available now!

Hey friends! Can you believe that it was just one short year ago that Book One in my fantasy adventure series, Getting Back to Oz was released?

Neither can I!

I am so excited to announce that Book Two in this exciting trilogy is available now via Amazon, Create Space, and your other favorite e-Reader platforms! Here is the back cover teaser blurb:

A farm girl. A witch. A magic compass.

Having already survived the worst that Wonderland, Neverland, and the Arabian desert threw at her, Dorothy Gale wants nothing more than to wake up in her own bed on her aunt and uncle’s farm in Kansas.

The arcane enchantment on the compass of the Emerald City isn’t going to let go of her so easily, however.

Dorothy and her friends, Winifred Jones and Almira West (of Wicked Witch fame) instead find themselves thrust once more into one classic literary world after another. Bitterly disappointed at not getting home after their last adventure, Winnie has surrendered possession of the compass, while Almira’s magic has flourished, developing unpredictable consequences of its use.

In their desperate quest to survive, the three women face all new dangers—fairy changelings, eldritch monsters, and gothic vampires—leaving the burden upon Dorothy to discover the confidence to trust her own instincts and learn the value of her own inner wisdom.

After all, there is no place like home.

What makes an artist?

I was asked recently why I decided to become an artist, and it really caused me to stop and think – I honestly don’t remember a time in my life that I wasn’t artistic in some way. Art, like beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder, but at it’s most basic definition, art is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory or performing artifacts, expressing the author’s imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power (per Wikipedia).

So what makes an artist?

Simply put, it’s someone who makes art.

Yes, I know, its complex in it’s simplicity, but really, what you create is what defines you as an artist. My personal motto is “let me tell you a story,” because no matter what I do, I am trying to tell a story. I want people to feel something about what I have created, whether that is a short story, a novel, a painting, a sculpture, a drawing, or a craft. It’s a need that is such a deep part of my soul, that it is as integral to me as breathing – I simply must create.

I don’t know if this is the same for other artists, but from the ones that I have had the pleasure to get to know in my life, it certainly seems to be a common theme. So if you are an artist, what is it that makes you who you are? I’d love to hear from you! Let’s make the world a better place and create create create!

Exciting things are happening!

Hello friends, its been *gasp* a few months since I’ve posted, and while it may seem as though I fell off the face of the earth, in fact, I was simply caught up in some busy Busy BUSY life events. After returning to work from a short disability leave, I had quite a bit of retraining to do, not to mention completing my novel (squeeee!), starting the sequel, and also publishing a couple short stories and updating my art listings on Etsy. And now, here we are with less than 4 weeks until the Holidays. Whew, I need to take a breath just typing all of that. I hope you and your family have had a better year than not, and I’m looking forward to keeping in touch with all of you.

So, as far as creativity goes, the final edits are complete for my debut novel, Courage: Getting Back To Oz With Winifred Jones. This is the first in a trilogy featuring some beloved literary characters, and some not so well known. I am so excited to be releasing this novel soon, and really hope you come to love these characters as much as I do. I’ve also managed to complete some – dare I say – beautiful art and have them for sale here.

Until next time, friends, stay warm, enjoy your family and friends, and don’t forget to check out the first three short stories in my In Between Tales series here. Much love, Jess

June-Stravaganza!

I tried too hard with that title, didn’t I? Oh well, it’s the eye for the dramatic in me that helps me write so well. At least that is what I will be telling myself this month as I gear up to release the next novella in the In Between Tales series that began with Josie’s Ghost (available as eBook here and here). I can’t tell you how excited I am to be releasing another title in the series, and really hope that everyone enjoys Josie Harper’s adventures as much as I do!

This month will be a busy one, what with a book launch, editing my new novel, not to mention some exciting promotions and giveaways. I feel a little bit like Oprah. You get a gift and You get a gift and You get a gift! Okay, perhaps that was an exaggeration, but really there are at least two giveaways happening this month, and depending on the feedback and interest I get, there might be even more than that!
